Stone Hill Winery Transitions to Next Generation, Two Satellite Locations to Become Curling Vine Winery

The Stone Hill Winery has been owned by the Held family since 1965. Jim and Betty Held ran the three locations (Hermann, New Florence Highway Outlet, and Branson) from then until 2016, at which point they decided they wanted to retire. Since the Helds had two sons, Thomas and Jon, they split the business between them. Jon Held is Stone Hill’s current vice president and general manager, and he has become the owner and president of the main Hermann location. Thomas Held has taken complete ownership of the two satellite locations (Branson and New Florence) and he renamed them Curling Vine Winery.

“In recent years as Stone Hill increased distribution to grocers and markets all across the state, we began to realize the satellite winery business model had outlived its lifecycle and the satellite locations needed a new direction,” Jon says. “It presented a perfect opportunity for Thomas and me to create separate businesses that satisfy our individual long-term goals.”

Curling Vine will sell different wines than Stone Hill because it will be a new brand entirely under Thomas’ direction. In addition, next to the location in Branson, Thomas plans to open the Twisted Copper Moonshine Still Museum in fall 2016. He plans to have the world’s largest publicly displayed collection of moonshine stills, and also to sell brandy and moonshine at the museum.
